Marlyse Reeves, an aerospace engineer and Ph.D. candidate at MIT, is a trailblazer in autonomous systems and robotics. Graduating from MIT in 2017 with a degree in aerospace engineering, Marlyse’s focus on system engineering and verification for space systems ignited her passion for autonomy in space. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in autonomous systems at MIT, where she explores how autonomous systems can enhance their models through environmental exploration. Collaborating with esteemed institutions like the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab and energy companies such as BP, Marlyse is at the forefront of cutting-edge research. In addition to her academic pursuits, Marlyse’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to co-found Parfait Tailored Hair, an AI-powered beauty tech start-up dedicated to custom hair products for women of color. As the company’s former COO, she leveraged her automation expertise to tackle manufacturing challenges and champion inclusivity. Passionate about using technology for the betterment of marginalized communities, Marlyse continues to advocate for global solutions like supply chain optimization and sustainable manufacturing. Marlyse’s commitment to diversity and inclusion extends beyond her professional endeavors. She mentors aspiring women and minorities in STEM fields and guides an all-girls robotics team at a local high school. A regular volunteer at the MIT museum, she shares her research insights with students and the public, inspiring the next generation of innovators.
