Serving as the founder and CEO of Akool, Dr. Jiajun Lu stands as a beacon in the world of artificial intelligence and augmented reality, with a career spanning over a decade that intertwines innovation with leadership. As a pivotal founding member of Apple Inc.’s AI & ML China Business, Jiajun is at the forefront of exploring groundbreaking AI opportunities in the Chinese market. His primary focus lies in the meticulous construction of Apple’s AutoML infrastructure. His journey in the tech world also led him to Google Project Soli from 2014 to 2017. Here, his expertise was channeled into the development of cutting-edge AI algorithms for gesture recognition, transforming Soli into a versatile depth sensor. Pre-Apple, Jiajun excelled at Stanford University (2017-2018), researching video synthesis. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, an EMBA from Harvard, and a Computer Science Bachelor’s from Zhejiang University, where he ranked 1st among 200 students. Jiajun’s entrepreneurship shone when co-founding XHey Technology Beijing in 2014. As CTO, he drove the engineering team to create “Double Date.” His involvement in AI and sensing tech includes impactful contributions at Microsoft Research Asia, collaborating with renowned researchers. At Adobe Research, his work in 3D human facial model reconstruction from single images gained widespread adoption across Adobe products and research. Jiajun’s contributions to the world of research are vast, with numerous publications under his belt. His dedication to his field is further highlighted by the array of honors and awards he has received over the years, solidifying his position as a global leader in AI and AR.
